We hadn't really planned to keep Izzy, as he was spoken for before he was even born. But due to his potential new owner's life-threatening illness, Izzy didn't leave when his sibling did. I was looking for another home for him when one day Richard said to me, "you can keep him if you want to." You see, Richard had fallen in love with this big, silly, loveable puppy.

A very handsome 7 month old Izzy

Izzy made his show debut at the East of England Championship Show in July 2010 at 8 months of age with no prior ring training, or even trips off our property, as the boarding kennel business is a 24 hour a day job. Imagine my delight when he won Best Dog, winning over another Canaan that was 4-1/2 years old at the time. Izzy went on to be Top Canaan Puppy 2010. But that was only the beginning as by the tender age of 17 months, and with very limited showing, Izzy had already won 3 Best of Breeds over much older Canaans. By the age of 2-1/2 years he had 7 Best of Breeds! 31st August 2012 saw Izzy become a dad for the first time. He produced a gorgeous litter of 2 boys and 3 girls out of our Ami (Chancos Charmani At Anacan). Then to top off the year, Izzy's wonderful type, temperament and sound movement gained him the title of overall Top Canaan Dog 2012, an achivement he has repeated in 2014.

Izzy June 2012

We decided to give Izzy a year off from the show ring in 2013 allow him further mature in body and mind while we campaigned his father, our Hayyim. We also decided to repeat the breeding to Ami as we were not in a position to keep one out of their first litter. They didn't disappoint us and we had 2 puppies - a boy (Anacan Shimron) and a girl (Anacan Divina Divine). 'Divina' stayed with us and 'Shimmi' went to a wonderful family - the Darbys. Divina has been doing very well in the ring, winning 2 Best Bitches out of the puppy class, and is Top Puppy 2014.

Izzy returned to the show ring January 2014 in top form winning Best of Breed at the Manchester championship show. He followed that by taking Reserve Best Dog (to another Anacan Dog - Anacan Future Legend) at Crufts in March and then really did us proud by winning Best Dog & Best in Show at the Canaan Dog Club of the United Kingdom's 14th annual single-breed open show 6th April 2014 under breed specialist judge, Mr Rob McLeod (Dunline). In his critique, Mr McLeod said, "Minto's ANACAN ISSACHAR cracking W/B boy. The ideal size and shape for a male. Lovely head proportions, good pigment. Good front and feet, pleasing neck, level topline and nice depth of chest. Nice tail set with good carriage on the move. Good profile and sound both fore and aft."

Izzy & Ellen Crufts 2014

Izzy was Best of Breed 5 times in 2015 and was Best Dog & Best of Opposite Sex to his sister, Phoebe, at 3 other shows and was Best of Breed 4 times in 2016. He is semi-retired from the show ring now as we campaign our young dog, Caiser. However, Izzy represented the breed well in the show ring and has shown his value as a stud dog. His daughter, Luna, has taken over as Richard's Discover Dogs dog after the loss of Max and his daughter Divina presented us with 5 gorgeous puppies in August 2017. But really Izzy loves nothing more than plopping himself onto the settee, squeezing next to me, and putting his head on my lap and having a good cuddle. His real value to us is being a much-loved member of our family. We are so grateful to have him.
